The Church's Arm of Charity is the story of the Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM) of the United Church of Christ illustrates a pattern of caring that was birthed by many church-related organizations, created by lay and clergy, mostly from local efforts and begun from simple, faith-driven acts of loving care. Coordination and mutual support were crucial to the ministry that these many institutions offered. To provide that support, organizations were formed that led to what is today known as the Council for Health and Human Service Ministries (CHHSM) of the United Church of Christ.
